NUA Partnership Fuels Progress in Albany, NY Schools (pdf)

After three years of NUA partnerships in each elementary and middle school, all schools in the Albany Public School District for the first time saw the majority of their students in grades 3 to 8 score at the two highest achievement levels on the New York State English Language Arts standardized examination.

  • The 2009 results were the highest the district has seen in its history–61 percent of students in grades 3-8 demonstrated proficiency or above proficiency, compared to 2008,when 49 percent of students scored at or above proficiency.
  • 2007-08: State test results show continued strong gains for Alabny’s public schools (Albany Public Schools Press Release | Ron Lesko 6.23.08) City School District of Albany elementary and middle-school students made significant gains in academic achievement this school year, according to math and English language arts test data the New York State Department of Education released Monday; Overall in grades 3-8, 14 percent more students achieved Level 3 or Level 4 in ELA in 2007-08, while 21 percent more students achieved the two highest levels in math; Superintendent Eva C. Joseph pointed to several ongoing professional development initiatives as key factors in the improving test results, including that the district is in the third year of its partnership with the National Urban Alliance. READ MORE
