NUA Partnership with Marion P Thomas Charter School
Newark, NJ

National Urban Alliance and Marion P. Thomas Charter School (MPTCS) began their partnership with the 2022/23 school year. MPTCS is the largest independently-operated free public charter school in Newark, NJ. MPTCS was established in 1999 by a group of individuals who were born and raised in Newark and wanted to provide the best possible educational experience for the next generation of Newarkers. The school is one of a few  Black-led charter schools in Newark, reflecting both its student population and the community it serves. Since 1999, MPTCS has grown from four classrooms to three campuses and now serves 1,300 students from Pre-K3 through the 12th grade. The current leadership, led by Superintendent Angela Mincy, are familiar with NUA through her leadership in Newark Public Schools including Science Park and Barringer High Schools.
