NCAA/AASP/NUA Scholar Athlete Transformation Initiative

The NUA, with its Pedagogy of Confidence®, juxtaposes the confidence and competence that student-athletes have in their prowess in their chosen sport to catapult them into academic success. This is done by professionally developing a cohort of staff and faculty supports around the student-athletes that use culturally responsive teaching tools and techniques as well as the 7 High Operational Practices® of the Pedagogy of Confidence®.

The NUA’s Board of Directors is steeped in the customs and patterns of higher education as well as the success and challenges of academically under-performing student-athletes. Their knowledge and skills will contribute to the successful realization of program goals.

A partnership with the NUA ensures that cutting-edge education research and practice are combined with customized training for student-athletes with support cohorts to enhance the well-being and personal development of the student-athletes.

NCAA, California State University at Northridge and the NUA are establishing the parameters of a project which will bring “The Pedagogy of Confidence” (TM)
to CSU’s largest higher education institution.  Working with Dr. Bernard Franklin, Executive Vice-President of NCAA, and Dr. Dianne Harrison, President, CSUN,
Eric Cooper and Marcia Young Cantarella are in discussion to bring the project to fruition. The program began with NUA President Eric Cooper delivering the keynote address (see press release here) at the NCAA Accelerating Academic Success Program Conference  on December 13, 2014 in New Orleans Louisiana.
