Donna Ogle, Ph.D. Dr. Ogle is a professor in the Reading and Language Department of the National-Louis University. Her primary areas of interest are reading strategies and the process of instructional change in schools. The K-W-L strategy that she developed is widely used across North America as a major component in expository reading and leaming. Dr. Ogle has many articles in journals including The Reading Teacher, The Journal of Reading Behavior, Educational Leadership, Phi Delta Kappa , and The Journal of Reading. She is co-author of the book Strategic Teaching and Learning: Coanitive Instruction in the Content Areas, and author of book chapters and video-tape programs. Dr. Ogle is active as a leader in professional associations. Currently she serves as cochair of the Illinois Language Arts Standards Committee and is participating in the Reading Summit and follow- up in Illinois. She recently served on the Board of The Reading Research Quarterly and Educational Assessment and is reviewing for the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Ogle has served in many capacities within the organizations including Chair of the Publications Committee of the International Reading Association, associate editor of the JRB: A Journal of Literac , co-chair of the Alternative Publications Committee of NRC, and co-author of the ASCD Curriculum Handbook. Ongoing involvement in public school programs is a central aspect of Dr. Ogle's professional commitment. She is director of a Goals 2000 grant for Reading and Thinking in the Content Areas with four Chicago high schools and is on the technical review team for the Chicago Academic Standards. Last year she was on the Planning Team for the 8 th Grade Bridge Program for the Chicago Public Schools. In addition, she serves as a senior consultant with the National Urban Alliance at Teachers College, Columbia University and is a partner with Dr. Robert Calfee's Project READ in Chicago schools. Long term consulting includes Charles County, NID., Prince George's Co., MD., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Fairfax, Virginia school districts. During 1993 Dr. Ogle worked with the U.S. Agency for International Development in Peshwar, Pakistan, on a curriculum development project for Afghanistan. Her interests in international collaboration have led to exchanges with professionals in Argentina, Chile, and Peru. Dr. Ogle has been published in Lecture y Vida, a Spanish-language journal published in Argentina and in other professional publications in South America. |
