Naaz Hosseini
Naaz Hosseini is an educational consultant, specializing in Teaching for Understanding, Multiple Intelligences, and the performing arts. She began developing the Artistic Learning Method at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where she received her Master's degree in Music in 1975. As founder and director of the Artistic Learning Method, she has worked with thousands of students and teachers to promote thinking and understanding.
Ms. Hosseini has served as a faculty member at the Harvard Project Zero Summer Institutes since their inception in July 1996. Her work incorporates the following Harvard Project Zero research strands: Teaching for Understanding, Multiple Intelligences, and The Arts. She has also presented her Method to numerous other education and cultural institutions, such as the United States Military Academy at West Point, Teachers College, Columbia University, the New York City Ballet, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and hundreds of schools in the United States and Colombia. Since 1980, she has been on the dance faculty of the Lincoln Center Institute, where she teaches aesthetic education to administrators, teachers and students of all ages.
Her extensive background as a professional multidisciplinary performer includes appearances on film, television, and compact disc as well as public appearances at Carnegie Hall, City Center, Town Hall, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Kennedy Center, and numerous other theaters worldwide. In February 2000, she released a new vocal CD, SoundPath, recorded live with percussionist, Bill Ruyle.
Howard Gardner has said of her: "Naaz Hosseini is a pioneer. If I were looking for a program that uses the body and movement to inculcate deeper understanding in students, I would begin with her work."
