NUA and NCTE
April 2003

The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the NUA have agreed to establish a partnership on behalf of urban education. Both organizations understand the need for creating strategic partnerships which can support the knowledge and resources available to urban students and the teachers who serve them. Through this partnership, the organizations will work together to facilitate practices that enable all students to achieve at the highest levels and to graduate from high schools prepared to enroll in a college or university of their choice. It is the hope of the NUA that NCTE will, among others, help to facilitate within its members, the deepening of an irrefutable belief in the ability of all students to achieve at the highest levels and to graduate from high schools prepared to enroll in a college or university of their choice. High school teachers who integrate a deep understanding of their content and integrate this knowledge base with the use of cognitive and engaged pedagogies can obviously accelerate learning by all students. The NUA is excited about the commitment of our new partner and is pleased to have them join the Council of Great City Schools and the International Reading Association in our work to support urban students.
